UFC Fight Night Island at the Flash Forum in Abu Dahbi concluded another card which saw Holly Holm face Irene Aldana.  Holm turned in one of her strongest performances since defeating Ronda Rousey.

From the opening bell Holly Holm used her top notch strike game to pepper Aldana, while staying away from Aldana’s powerful left hook. Even more impressive Holly Holm did not rely solely on striking, as she scored takedowns in each round. An impressive feat, given that the Guadalajara native Aldana is known for supreme takedown defense. Holm never let up throughout the fight, finishing with a blistering flurry of punches that nearly floored Aldana in the closing seconds.

The effort garnered Holm’s a unanimous decision. Two judges scoring the bout  50-45 twice and another 50-44 all for Holm.

Of the well rounded effort Holm said in her post fight interview “I didn’t come to MMA to be a boxer in an MMA cage or in the Octagon,” Holm said. “I came to be a complete mixed martial artist. … I’m still green and I’m still learning.”
