Marvel’s appearance at Hall H after a several year hiatus was one of the most anticipated panels of San Diego Comic-Con. It did not disappoint. Yes, there were a number of Phase 5 and Phase 6 announcements, but the showstopper was the debut of the teaser for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The teaser opens with a cover of Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry” showing close ups of each cast member, presumably in mourning over the loss of T’Challa.  A presumption which is confirmed by the voice over of Angela Bassett’s Ramonda who says at one point. “I am queen of the most powerful nation in the world, and my entire family is gone. Have I not given everything?” It is clear that the presence and absence of Chadwich Boseman looms large in this film.

Yet, amid the loss there is also new conflict and new hope. The footage provides glimpse’s of another classic Marvel hero Namor, the Sub-Mariner, who will make his MCU debut in Wakanda Forever.  The trailer seems to indicate that Namor’s underwater world of Atlantis will do battle with the citizenry of Wakanda.  It’s also teased that that another will pick up the mantle of The Black Panther as we see another suit up at the end of the trailer.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever opens November 11, 2022. Until then, see the teaser here.
