UFC 253 is in the books. In the headliner Israel Adesanya defeated Paulo Costa with a second round TKO. “The Last Stylebender” employed an Empire Strikes Back strategy to defeat Costa. If you recall when the Rebel Alliance needed to take out much larger AT-AT droids on the ice planet Hoth, they went for the legs and the head fell.
From the opening bell it was clear what Adesanya’s gameplan was to attack the legs of Costa. In the second round, Adesanya started the round by mixing up kicks and landing some good strikes on Costa. After catching a body kick Adesanya landed a body shot of his own and then a hook on the retreat that dropped Costa.
