Although she’s been acting since childhood, the 27-year-old came to prominence just a couple of years ago as Lucy Danzinger on HBO’s hit series, Boardwalk Empire. As Lucy, the girlfriend of gangster Nucky Thompson, de la Huerta shows different sides: from showgirl to scorned lover.
“Lucy is a very complicated woman — like most women — and a lot of the time she was very lost in her relationship with Nucky,”
de la Huerta said of her character in an Esquire interview.
“She was in love with him, but she didn’t know how to be herself in that relationship fully and have him love her. So sometimes she would use her sexuality to protect herself or to get what she wanted. Not that she’s not a sexy character — and in Season One of course it’s a part of her, but audiences are going to see more of the real her. It’s going to be very different.”
Audiences will continue to see de la Huerta play Lucy, but she’ll also be appearing in three new films and is working on several more — one of which is about another infamous woman: Linda Lovelace. No matter what de la Huerta does, says or goes, she’s sure to keep people guessing and disturbing the peace.
