Yesterday, both Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer posted a picture of the poster for the Top Gun sequel – Top Gun: Maverick on their respective Instagram accounts. In their post they teased a trailer today. Well, they delivered. In more ways than one.  The new trailer boasts some pretty impressive aerial footage. Several co-stars including Jon Hamm have commented in the press that it is the real deal. Meaning no CGI – it shows. The sequel is said to take place over 30 years after the original. Titular character Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is tasked with teaching an elite crew the art of dog fighting. The official synopsis is:

After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete Mitchell is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him.

When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose.”

Top Gun: Maverick opens June 2020. Until then check out the trailer here.
