While those stateside may not be familiar with Belinda Peregrin, better known simply as Belinda, she is kind of big deal in Latin America and were betting this success will eventually follow suit in the United States.
The Spanish-born Mexican singer-songwriter and actress started her career in 2000 at the age of 10 when she was cast in the lead role for a children’s telenovela. Additional telenovela and variety show work would follow until 2003, when she released her debut self-titled album “Belinda.” It was a commercial success throughout Latin America, and sold over two and a half million records worldwide. This freshman success would spawn three additional albums all of which have gone on to be commercial hits. With more than two million albums sold in the United States, Belinda is the third best selling female Mexican artist in the United States, behind only Thalía and Paulina Rubio — not too shabby.
2013 saw her venture back into television serving as a judge on the Latino edition of “The X-Factor.” She’s said to have another album in the works for 2014. If we were betting men, we’d say look out for Belinda. With her beauty and talent to match cross-over success can’t be too far behind.
