This year the National Dominican Day Parade returns to where it belongs. On Sixth Avenue in New York City. Like most things in the world, it went virtual for the past two years due to the pandemic.  In 2022 it returns to a live format and will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary.

Recognizing the best of Dominican culture – music, dance, food, and the triumphs of the Dominican community. The parade is set to go down on August 14th.  In anticipation the day’s events National Dominican Day Parade recently announced the 2022 line up of honorees.

 

The Grand Marshall & Madrina

Leading the group of honorees and this year’s Grand Marshal is the beloved NYC Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez. His leadership skills and knowledge has made him uniquely qualified to lead the most important transportation department in the nation. Now he gets to lead his community in the parade.

Joining Commissioner Rodriguez is Lark-Marie Anton Menchini. She is the Madrina for the 2022 festivities. If you don’t know, Menchini is a distinguished communications and public relations veteran and the Chief Communications officer one of the US biggest publishers – Gannett.

 

El Cacique de Alegria

This year’s Cacique de Alegria is none other than the world-famous actor and comedian Ruperto Vanderpool. Vanderpool has appeared in films such as The Cookout and Carlito’s Way: Rise to Power. He also served as hosted for the virtual parades and is a staple in the community.

Lifetime Achievement Award

This year the parade will recognize El Conjunto Quisqueya with the lifetime achievement award. Who for 50 years have delighting Dominicans and Latinos with their bombastic merengue artistry. They will also join us for a special presentation on 6th Avenue.

Cristina Contreras, who is Chairman of the Board of the Parade stated, “This year’s group of honorees is diverse, talented, and accomplished which goes to demonstrate the impact and legacy that Dominicans are making in every area of our society – Congratulations to all!”
