Sofia Vergara had the interwebs buzzing last week, when the trailer for her new limited series Griselda debuted. Vergara plays Griselda Blanco the infamous Colombian drug “Queenpin” in Miami in the 1970s and ’80s who earned the moniker “La Madrina.”
Blanco has been portrayed in numerous films, series and documentaries. Yet, this turn starring Vergara (who also serves as executive producer) in the titular role is the most high profile and A List portrayal yet. The trailer is well…downright delicious. Showing the early 80’s Miami drug scene with authorities and the criminal underworld mutually baffled at the success, efficiency and deadliness of Blanco’s operation. The role is also one which allows Vergara to demonstrate her acting chops and break the sexy Latina archetype, by the looks of the trailer she does so with ease.
Griselda, premieres January 25th on Netflix, created by Narcos showrunner Eric Newman and directed by Andrés Baiz, with Ingrid Escajeda as showrunner and writer.
