It never seems to fail; every generation gets a musical group that skyrockets to stardom and there always seems to be a member of that group that shines a little brighter than the rest. From Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5, to Justin Timberlake and InSync, to Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child. In 2017 Camila Cabello became the latest to break away from the pack.
The Cuban-American singer rose to fame as part of the girl group Fifth Harmony. While she performed with her bandmates from 2013 through 2016, throughout, Cabello was slowly but surely establishing her own voice. First in 2015, came a collaboration she co-wrote with Shawn Mendes entitled “I Know What You Did Last Summer”. The single was certified platinum. Then in 2016, came an another unlikely collab with American rapper Machine Gun Kelly “Bad Things”, also a runaway hit. By the end of 2016 she officially bid farewell to Fifth Harmony and let’s just say…it wasn’t pretty. Each side engaged in a social media PR war, having a different explanation for the departure. Then there was that MTV Awards performance, where her former group threw major shade at her.
