While it is very difficult to celebrate lockdown given that Coronavirus has killed so many people and ruined many lives and families. It is also important for our mental health to see some good come out of this pandemic. While none of it will make the lives worth losing, seeing the positives and trying to make the best out of a bad situation will help us get through this tough time. Here are just a few of the benefits that you might have experienced since lockdown.

A Change Of Perception

You might have been totally clear on what you wanted out of life. Yet with more time to think. You have realized you want something else out of life. Perhaps you have come up with a better idea for your business. Maybe you’ve reassessed your values and business means less than it used to. Maybe, those “life goals” have changed. Soyou have really had time to consider whether you’ll get dental implants once this is over.  Or where you really want to go on holiday or simply spend your weekends.

A New Focus on Health

While many people started off panic buying and then over-eating and drinking. By now people have settled into this new way of life. A new UK survey by nutrition tracking app, Nutracheck has crunched some convincing numbers. Finding that 57 percent of people are less bothered about buying branded products. Twenty-seven percent are buying more fruit and vegetables and 46 percent are buying more fresh, unpackaged foods. One third are cooking more and 14 per cent are drinking less. Forty-three per cent are using their ‘exercise hour’ outside, and 33 per cent say they are more active than before lockdown. Forty-two per cent have tried an online workout … and 30 per cent are keeping it up!

Getting to know people

Okay, you can’t go out and get to know new people. But spending more time with your loved ones at home more than ever before can actually mean that you get to know them all over again. It may come as quite a surprise and even if you’ve been with your partner for years. Spending all this time with them might mean that you find out things you never knew. The lesson, rediscovering the relationships with your loved ones can be one of the benefits of lockdown.

Breathing in Cleaner Air

There have been remarkable environmental benefits since planes have been grounded, cars parked and factories shut down. Across the world, carbon emissions have fallen, and air quality has risen. According to Jonathan Bartley, Co-leader of the Green Party, we can now learn how to create a safer world from the lockdown. He said: “Scientists have warned of increased risk of more pandemics from the destruction of nature, rampant deforestation, intensive farming, mining and global air travel, as well as exploitation of wild animals. Together they have created a ‘perfect storm’ for the spillover of diseases from wildlife to people. But lockdowns around the world have pressed pause on much environmental destruction.”

More Creativity

Because of the boredom, the lack of distractions and activities people can do. It has meant that people need to use their imagination to come up with new things. Whether it’s creating quizzes for their relatives on Zoom, thinking up new ways to entertain the kids. Or getting creative in the kitchen for at-home date nights. Everyone has had to improvise, and they’re doing a very good job at it.

So while no one likes to be on lockdown. There can be benefits to lockdown. Make the time count!
