Converse is going all in on Hispanic Heritage Month with the release of its “¡Mi Gente, Mi Alegria!” (My People, My Joy) collection. This is not Converse first foray into honoring Latino culture, in 2021 they released “Mi Gente, Mi Barrio” collection. In 2022 however, the sneaker company is changing things up a bit. Let’s look at what Converse brings to the fold this year.
The Kicks
First and foremost, what do the kicks look like? In 2022 the iconic Converse All Star, the Chuck 70 and Run Star Legacy CX get some Latino love.
The Run Star Legacy CX couples an off-white-colored canvas with a slew of vibrant hues, including “Laser Lemon” and “Light Aqua,” for example, which animate sole units on the most latter silhouette. While eye-catching patterns inject personality into the All Star and Chuck 70.
Colorful gradients are also used and are adorned on the Converse shoes’ iconic star patch. According to Converse, it’s a nod to the vibrancy of Latino culture.
Last, but not least, “Mi Gente” messaging is stamped on the outsole, license plate and sock-liner. Apparently, a detail that was of great importance for the Latin American designers that worked on this Converse collection.

The Inspiration
In a statement issued by Converse, they said the 2022 collection is meant to be a “collective expression of culture, a tribute to Latin American roots-and above all, a celebration.” Just like 2021 in 2022 Converse went straight to the source for inspiration and input. The Mi Gente collection was created by Converse Latin American employees to honor the vibrant threads that bring the many communities of their culture to life. Each piece was channeled from a place of joy—or pura alegría.
The Partnership
Converse did not stop there. This year they have also partnered with Pangea Sound. An L.A. based global dance music collective on the collection. Supernova, a musician and a member of the collective stated “The goal with Pangea Sound is to create a borderless community where people from all different backgrounds and different representations can come enjoy themselves, be themselves, and be on the same wavelength as everybody.”
Looks like the “¡Mi Gente, Mi Alegria!” collection looks to do the same!
The collection is now available at Converse.com and select retailers.
