The general rule when it comes to landing a well paid job is that you’ll need some sort of university or college degree. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford the costs that come with further learning after high school, which can hinder job prospects for some people. Add to the costs of obtaining of a degree at a four university are increasing exponentially far out pacing starting salaries of jobs those degrees were supposed to help obtain. Bottom line, the return on investment is decreasing every year.
Thankfully, there are still lots of well paid jobs out there that don’t need you to have any kind of qualifications or degrees. And, some of them give you the opportunity to work your way up the ladder in the process! With that in mind, let’s take a look at some potential alternative career paths to consider.
Medical Secretary
First up on the list is becoming a medical secretary. In this role, you’d be required to keep track of patient files, book appointments, and work closely with doctors and nurses to make sure patients get the care they need. The great thing about this role is that you don’t need any kind of qualifications to get started. You’ll be working on computers for a large part of the day, so knowing your way around a computer and having the ability to record information accurately and quickly will be a bonus. And, you can work your way up through roles once you’re there. Whether that means managing other secretaries or going on courses they offer you is completely up to you. Even at base level, you’ll find the salary is pretty decent!
Trucker
Can’t fathom being caged in an office cubicle. If you’re someone that loves being on the road, then becoming a trucker might just be the perfect job for you. This is another role that you could work your way up in. You could work your way from delivering shipments up to becoming a tri-state hazmat, where some drivers earn over $100,000 a year! It might take some time, but being on the open road and earning well might just be the job you never knew you needed.
Landscaper
Landscaping is another career move that could make you a lot of money, especially if you were to go self employed. If you’re someone that enjoys the great outdoors, this is a great option to consider. You’ll be pruning trees, caring for flowers, installing lawns, and you might even find yourself with bigger projects like installing sprinkler systems in residential and commercial gardens. And, if you do choose to be self employed, you’re in charge of your fees, which quite literally means your earnings are limitless!
Real Estate Agent
Finally, becoming a real estate agent could also make you a lot of money. Now, this one sometimes gets a bad rap. But hear us out. You will need to pass a few requirements before becoming one, but you don’t need any qualifications per se. And, depending on which state you’re in, you could earn anything north of $60,000 a year plus commission! So, if you’re a people person and love the idea of selling people their dream home, then it’s definitely a career to consider!
