There are so many great reasons to get outside, and if you have an outdoor excursion planned, then that is probably partly at least because you appreciate just how valuable it can be. You might be going with friends, with family, or just alone. In any case, you’ll probably be keen to make the most of it and to ensure that you are really putting your all into it. With that in mind, let’s consider some of the things that you can do to ensure you are making the most of any outdoor excursion you may have planned.
Plan But Not Too Much
There is a lot to be said for having some kind of a plan in place, but that doesn’t mean you need to go overboard on it. The truth is that there are all sorts of things that you are probably going to want to plan for. Including a general sense of where you are going, what route you are likely to take, and the forecast for the day or weekend you will be there. You’ll want to bring a map and tell someone your plans for safety. But leave plenty of room to be spontaneous. Also, make sure the unplanned detours are allowed to happen – they are often the best part.
Pack Smart
Of course, understanding what you need to take is important too. So you should make sure that you are going to pack smart if you want to make the most of the excursion. Think light, but not bare-bones. You want to make sure you have everything you need – though you might need less than you at first assume. Consider taking a refillable water bottle, some snacks, and a basic first aid kit as well as a cowboy knife. This will help you to feel so much more prepared for whatever may happen.
Be Comfortable
You will find the whole experience so much more enjoyable if you are able to be comfortable throughout. There is no point in suffering purposefully with being uncomfortable. Instead, make sure to pack some good shoes, and ensure you have plenty of sunscreen and insect repellent as well. These are not really optional, and you will feel a lot more prepared if you have them with you. So this is going to help you a lot and you’ll find you feel so much better when you are out there.
Be Present
As much as possible, aim to be present with the experience. That will probably mean putting aside the photos for now, and simply sitting, talking and thinking. This is a good practice in general, and certainly one that will serve you well when it comes to being outdoors. That is the kind of thing that is going to be really important to remember and you will find that you are so much more able to enjoy the experience for what it is this way. In the modern world, this kind of thing is increasingly rare.
