No Canelo, no problem. In case you missed it. Last night Gennady Golovkin returned to the ring at the Stub Hub Center to face Vanes Martirosyan. GGG’s opponent can be described as nothing more than a replacement for Canelo Alvarez, in the wake of Canelo-GGG 2 being cancelled due to Alvarez failed drug tests.

Irrespective of the opponent, GGG looked to be in fine form. Martirosyan landed a shot or two in the opening round which backed Golovkin up. Planting a seed that this may be a competitive affair. However in round two Golovkin asserted his dominance starting with a crushing right uppercut and following with a succession of power punches which put Martirosyan on the canvass for good. After the fight Martirosyan told BoxingScene.com “It was like being hit by a train, It wasn’t just one punch. It was all of his punches. It’s the hardest I’ve ever been hit.”
