Some of us have a bit of a love-hate relationship with exercise, and for those on the hate side of the scale- it can seem like a bit of a chore. As 2019 comes to a close many of you out there will start thinking about your New Year’s Resolutions. A lot of us seem to put getting the perfect gym body on the list every year! For those looking for a few tips and tricks on how to make exercise that little bit more fun, here come five.

Exercise with a Buddy

It can be hard to motivate yourself to exercise when you’re going through a phase of lethargy. Perhaps you’ve got a mate who is a real fitness fanatic? If so, pester them to help you get a little motivated- and go together. Even if you don’t have a fitness crazy friend, a fellow exercise- shy pal will do! Exercising together can be more of a laugh, plus once you’ve made the plan, you won’t want to let your friend down (and therefore are more likely to get out of bed)!

Try a Sports Team

For some of us, the gym can get a little repetitive. If you can relate, joining a sports team could be a nice 2020 project for you. Team sports allow us to get fit, learn new skills, and potentially meet some awesome new people along the way. Perhaps there’s a sport you’ve missed playing since school? If you prefer one-on-one as opposed to team games, why not give tennis a try? Tennis is a great sport for your cardiovascular health plus to increase your bone density and lower your body fat. Joining a club can be a great idea to find the perfect place to play. A quality club will ensure regular tennis court resurfacing, so the terrain is always perfect for tournaments. Tennis clubs also will often provide social events too.

Add Netflix

Feel more like Netflix than the gym- why not try both? Some gyms will now allow you to access Netflix on their entertainment devices for the treadmill etc. If your gym doesn’t offer this, take your own device, and create a makeshift entertainment option. When you’re watching your favourite show, you’ll barely notice how many calories you’re shifting! If music is more your thing, do the classic thing of pumping out your favourite tunes.

Alternative Classes

There are plenty of alternative classes out there to make your workout a little fun. Ever heard of ‘beer-yoga’ -yes, it’s a thing! Or why not try a 60’s inspired dance class for the laughs? If you’re a Harry Potter fan, there are even Quidditch teams out there now to be found.

Go Leisurely

Exercise doesn’t always have to happen in a class or gym, if that’s not your thing- why not go a bit more leisurely? Talk a hike in the woods followed by a picnic with friends, take a bike ride, or go for a swim in the sea (preferably in the summer)! Turn your exercise regime into days out, and you’ll barely notice it’s a great workout
