It may be an early Christmas for Generation X. As today LucasFilm released the first trailer for Indiana Jones Dial of Destiny.

The latest installment of the iconic franchise, once again stars Harrison Ford as the world famous archeologist. The official synopsis from Lucasfilm is:

“In 1969, American archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones lives against the backdrop of the Space Race. Jones had started to feel doubts when the US Government recruits former WW II enemies in their desperation to beat the Soviet Union out in the competition to make it to space. His goddaughter, Helena, accompanies him on his journey. Meanwhile, Voller, a NASA member and ex-Nazi involved with the moon landing program, wishes to make the world into a better place as he sees fit.

Of note, is that for this fifth installment both Steven Spielberg and George Lucas pass the director and writer mantles on to James Mangold, who directed and co-wrote the script for this outing. Also returning along side Ford is John Rhys-Davies reprising his role as Sallah, and new cast members Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Boyd Holbrook (Narcos) and  Antonio Banderas (Philadelphia, Desperado, Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down).

The trailer itself looks fantastic and a return to the swashbuckling days, theme park-ride nature of the initial installments. While Ford is clearly not in his Han Solo prime, the trailer doesn’t try to pretend otherwise and calls out where dealing with an older, wiser and more world weary Jones.  Crossing our fingers we get a Short Round cameo in this installment.

Indiana Jones Dial of Destiny opens in Summer of 2023. Until then see the trailer here.
