“I’m excited because this show is giving a lot of Latinos work,” Rodriguez said. “I also think it represents Latinos in a positive light and portrays them as complex, well-rounded characters. I feel very fortunate and lucky to be a part of it and I think we’ve got something very special here.”
Jay agreed wholeheartedly saying, “We don’t just have diverse actors, we’ve got writers, directors and a whole crew from different backgrounds. We even switch [from Spanish to English] on the show.” And even if Gang Related isn’t an immediate hit, Hernandez feels confident that it’s a step in the right direction for Latinos on television.
“I think it’s a great sign that the network is getting behind a show with this much diversity,” he added. “I hope the audience understands and respects that too because it can make green-lighting the next multicultural show that much easier.”
