If you didn’t know who Oscar Valdez was before. After last night, both hardcore boxing and the casual fan alike know who he is now. Last night Oscar Valdez scored a KO over Miguel Berchelt. The knockout was so definitive and devastating it’s gone viral and is sure to be in the discussion for knockout of the year.
In a featherweight match up at the MGM Center in Las Vegas, Valdez and Berchelt faced off for Berchelt’s WBC title. Valdez scored a knockdown in the fourth when the referee ruled that the ropes held Berchelt up. But Berchelt, who is considered the world’s best active super featherweight, mounted a rally at the midpoint of the match. However, at the end of the 10th round Valdez landed a left hook that dropped Berhcelt cold. Unable to even move for several seconds after falling to the canvas.
The win put’s Valdez in contention with to fight WBO champion Shakur Stevenson, who was ringside and at the conclusion told the press “That’s the only fight to make now.” If Valdez brings his Belchert game to a Stevenson fight it could be a wild night.
