A new trailer for Top Gun: Maverick dropped today. This is the long awaited and often delayed sequel to the 1986 Tom Cruise hit Top Gun. If the film is anything like the trailer fans new and old alike are in for quite a ride.
Today’s trailer gives us a better sense of the overall story. It appears Pete “Maverick” Mitchell has been called back to the Top Gun program to serve as instructor for a new group of recruits. We also find out how Maverick’s old nemesis Ice Man, played by Val Kilmer, fits into the sequel and get a brief glimpse of Kilmer in character. We also get to see how the new recruits play into the story – namely the son of Maverick’s former co-pilot Goose, played by Miles Teller is among them and certainly has a bone to pick with Maverick.
Then there is the action! Tom Cruise has long touted that the flying sequences in the film are “first of their kind” and fans will see action that has never been captured on film. If the trailer is any indication, he’s spot on. But don’t take our word for it. Check out the trailer here.
Top Gun: Maverick is set to be released on May 27, 2022.
