It’s been over a decade since we last saw iconic mafia boss Tony Soprano on screen. Today that changed when Warner Bros. debuted the first trailer for the Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark.

One of the most anticipated movies of 2021. The film follows the rise of a young Tony Soprano as he is mentored by Nicky Moltesanti to learn the ways of the New Jersey underworld.  Set in the 1960’s against the back drop of the Newark riots. The trailer provides brief but memorable glances at the characters in their youth, including Livia Soprano who demonstrates her special brand of motherhood, when the school counselor tells her young Tony is a leader. She retorts “prove it, he’s got a D average”.

Written by Sopranos creator David Chase and directed by Alan Taylor. Saints, stars Michael Gandolfini, James Gandolfini’s son, as Young Tony Soprano.  He is joined by an all star cast in the form of Alessandro Nivola, Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton, One Night in Miami), Jon Bernthal (Walking Dead, Punisher), Corey Stoll (Billions), Billy Magnussen, Michela De Rossi, John Magaro, with Ray Liotta (Goodfellas) and Vera Farmiga (The Departed).

The Many Saints of Newark arrives in theaters and HBOMax on October 1, 2021. Until then check out the trailer here.
