San Diego Comic-Con wrapped yesterday. Film and television studios as well as video game and comic book companies descended upon San Diego to show their upcoming slate and fanboys got to gauge on teasers, trailers, promos and celebrity panels. No time to sit and watch a plethora of trailers? We’ve curated the highlights and hottest moments for 2017. It turns out this year, television ruled the roost and the most excitement generated was about what was not shown rather than what was. Read on to find out.

FILM

Justice League

There has been a ton of buzz around this superhero team up – both good and bad. From the recent rumor that Ben Affleck would be hanging up the cowl, to extensive reshoots by new director Joss Whedon and the need to lighten the gloom and doom tone of prior DCEU installment Batman v. Superman. So, what’s the verdict? It’s still out, but Affleck eloquently quashed rumors he was leaving the DCEU – “I am the luckiest guy in the world. Batman is the coolest part in any universe, Marvel, DC, anything–I’m so thrilled to do it. Its fucking amazing. I still can’t believe it.” Nuff said as to Batfleck. As for the trailer? It looks promising. A lighter tone, lots of Wonder Woman and an Aquaman and Flash who look like they will steal every scene there in.

Thor: Ragnarok

Not to be outdone, Marvel dropped a trailer for the third installment of its Thor franchise. The Hulk heavy preview looks pretty good. Seems like the direction of the film is more Team Thor, with our Asgardian hero recruiting his big green friend, brother & foe Loki and adding newcomer Tessa Thompson. We like the feel, plus, from an MCU world building perspective its presumed to be the bridge to Avengers: Infinity War.

Avengers: Infinity War

Speaking of Avengers. Marvel also brought some footage of the latest Avengers film to Hall H. If you were there you got to see it, however, Marvel wasn’t releasing it to the public just yet. But you know those fanboys, they will not be stopped. The footage has leaked online. Its super bootleg style, but good enough to make out and your first peek at Thanos. Enjoy it before it comes down.

Yet, perhaps the greatest buzz around film at this year’s convention was about what’s in the pipeline. Warner Bros. confirmed Wonder Woman 2 is a go and so is Flashpoint. What’s Flashpoint you ask? Just happens to be a major story line in the Flash universe. If it stays true to the source material it means Wonder Woman and Aquaman will appear and do battle against one another, while Batman will be Bruce Wayne’s father – does this mean Jeffrey Dean Morgan will don the cowl? Over in the MCU it was announced that Ant-Man and the Wasp will have new talent for its sequel in the form of Michelle Pheiper and Laurence Fishburne joining the cast. Both great A-level additions.
