The largest national protest in Puerto Rico’s history went down on Monday July 22, 2019.

In this the second week of protests from islanders frustrated with government corruption. They are demanding Ricardo Rosselló resign as governor. Rosselló ‘s administration began to crumble several weeks ago. The result of leaked text messages between him and his top aids published by the Center for Investigative Journalism in Puerto Rico.

A week after they started the protests continue to grow and show no signs of stopping. The general strike happened on Monday at Plaza Las Americas and shut down a major highway. It’s estimated that over 500,000 people attended. Protesters have plans for another national strike on July 25th if Rosselló does not step down before then. Governor Roselló’s position remains the same. Stated he will remain his position but wont run for reelection.
