I instantly noticed the difference in potency when I tasted my first one. Don’t get me wrong, it was still very tasty but it’s not a drink you would throw back a couple of times at a hotel bar before hitting the pool or beach. Think more along the lines of go-big or go-home. For my second round I asked for a bit more lime-juice to cut it further. Practice tip: when ordering make sure that you get what you asked for as there is a brandy-based cocktail called The Cuban Missile. In speaking with my friend Paulo, I found out that The Cuban Missile Crisis is very popular in Miami and New Jersey where there are significant Cuban communities.
Here is a fun recipe that will get you closer to the Cuban experience:
Cuban Missile Crisis Limón
- Ice Cubes
- 1 oz. high proof rum
- Splash of grenadine
Fill ice into a high-ball glass. Pour 1 ounce of rum and 3 ounces of lemonade separately. Stir well and add splash of grenadine to finish.
