The Final Verdict on Cantinflas

The good definitely outweighs the bad in Cantinflas. Though not a perfect movie, it is consistently entertaining and works as a mini-history lesson on the Mexican movie industry. As mentioned before, Oscar Jaenada delivers a powerhouse performance; not only as Cantinflas, but as his complicated alter ego, Mario Moreno. The only downside lies in the movie’s more clichéd moments, which include bits of corny dialogue and a bit too much melodrama. Though at a brisk 90 minutes, there is never too long of a lull between laughs.

Overall, Cantinflas is as a fun and interesting biopic on a true Latino legend. It can also be a great date night experience, with its sweet love story and lighthearted comedy moments.
