Yesterday, DC dropped a first look at it’s latest animated film Batman: Death in the Family. This film has a few noteworthy aspects that differ from the rest of the DC animated universe. First, it looks to have an R rating. Not unheard of as Batman: The Killing Joke got slapped with an R rating (that Batsy and Joke can’t seem to keep it clean). However, certainly not the norm in the DCU.
Then there is the interactive element. This short film will allow viewers to choose the direction of the film. So if you don’t want Jason Todd to die, you’ve got some alternatives. It’s an experiment for sure, however, it is good to see DC pushing boundaries and not playing it safe. Perhaps it can usher in a new genre of animation.
