It’s easy to feel on top of the world once you make a successful offer on your dream home. At last, the stressful search is over, and you can start imagining how your life will look in this wonderful space. Or, at least, you can once everything’s finalized.
Unfortunately, the closure period between acceptance and completion is around 30-45 days here in the US, and that’s if everything runs according to plan! As such, you’ve still got a bit of waiting to do before you can finally settle.
We understand that it can be frustrating, especially considering you’ll probably want to hold back on packing until you’ve got a set moving date. So, what on earth can you do in the interim? Keep on reading for a few ideas!
Check in With the Professionals
You need professionals onboard when you’re buying a house, including a mortgage broker and a trusted real estate lawyer. These pros obviously won’t be phoning you every single day of your waiting period (and nor should you phone them that often!), but checking in at least once a week can be a great way to ease your waiting woes.
That’s because, as well as keeping you up to date on general purchase progress, the professionals in your team can let you know rough predictions for moving dates throughout. This ensures that you have realistic expectations, feel fully in the loop, and needn’t drive yourself crazy wondering if you’ll exchange today or in two weeks.
Watch the Right Shows
So, you’ve got the low down on your purchase, and now you really are stuck in the waiting game. We’d say that’s a great time to pull out the best real estate-themed Netflix shows. These are fantastic because they help to keep your head in the property game while still providing a much-needed distraction.
Top shows to consider include Selling Sunset for reliving that home-buying buzz, Stay Here for some much-needed interior inspo, and Marie Kondo’s backlist to help you declutter when you pack and finally move.
Luckily, these shows all have pretty long backlists, which might mean that, by the end of your binge, your own new property is finally ready for you!
Focus on Your Mindset
While waiting around for completion is stressful, it’s nothing compared with the tempestuous process of actually moving house. That’s why this waiting period also provides the ideal opportunity to work on your mindset in advance.
Taking this time to practice calming meditations and breathing exercises can make you more present, better able to handle stress, and more likely to develop a regular, comforting self-care routine even when your life is in boxes around you. And that’s going to help you now, later, and most likely for the rest of your life.
No one likes waiting, and it can be especially frustrating when you’re on the brink of such a big life change. But, fear not; filling your time in these ways could keep you patient and prepped to go.
