t’s been a big week for the cast of the upcoming film In the Heights.  As the release date nears, the studio is revving up the promotional machine.  First, it was announced that the cast will serve as Grand Marshals of the 2021 Puerto Rican Day Parade celebration.

They will have a chance to share their thoughts and experiences on growing up Latino in New York City, as well as reflect on their own personal memories and stories of going to the Parade in years past.  Serving as Marshalls could not be more emblematic of the story itself.  One whose theme inspires audiences to hold onto their dreams while always honoring their roots.

The cast will be part of a 2-hour television special to air on WABC-TV Channel 7 in New York and stream live on abc7ny.com, on June 13 at 12 noon EDT. The program will be hosted by WABC-TV anchors Joe Torres and David Novarro, along with Sunny Hostin, co- co-host of “The View.”

The cast closed out the week with an appearance at 2021 MTV Movie Awards, where in a heartwarming introduction they introduced a new clip from the film. Check it out below.

The press blitz, could not come at a better time. First, the world is starting to open up and a feel- good summer film may be just the thing to get folks back into theatres. Finally, it’s no secret that much is being written and said about the lack of stories for Latinx by Latinx. Well one has arrived. By the looks of it so far, it should get the attention of the Academy.

In the Heights opens in theaters and on HBOMax on June 11th.
