Does your car keep breaking down? It’s an absolute nightmare when it breaks down once, let alone if it continues to do so. It might be one recurring reason that your car keeps failing on you, or it might be a mixture of everything that’s causing the problems. But, if your car is constantly breaking down, then you have got to start asking yourself some serious questions. The most important one is whether you should get rid of this one and buy a new car, or whether you should try to repair it again.

Only you are going to be able to answer this question when all is said and done. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t give you some advice. Have we captured your interest?  Good, let’s get started.

How Much Will The Repair Cost?

If you have a car that is notorious for breaking down then you may have to continually work out how much repairs will cost. Car repairs are not the cheapest in the world. Sometimes it works out much better to just buy a new one. However, if you love you love that lowrider your papa gave you, then you may be happy to pay for these repairs over and over. One thing to remember is, don’t go with the first place and price that you find. There will be many places online and in-person where you can get the necessary parts from. Garages will add on extra money to not only cover the parts but labor as well. This can sometimes be as much as $200 per hour, so be sure to shop around.

How Many Repairs Has The Car Had?

There will only be so many times where you can repair a car, especially if it is the same part. You should take this into consideration when you are making this decision. Because you can’t just keep doing the same thing and hoping for a different result. If the repair is not working in the long term, then it’s not going to work no matter how many times you do it. Of course it will carry on providing you the temporary fix that you have become accustomed to, until it doesn’t anymore.

If the car has had a ridiculous number of repairs, then perhaps it’s just time to let it go. There are only so many times that you can repair a car before it starts costing you more money than it is worth.

Can You Repair It Yourself?

One of the most important questions that you should be asking yourself is whether or not you are able to repair the vehicle yourself. For some people the answer is going to be an obvious no because they have no idea about cars, how they work, how to fix them etc. However, if you do know about cars, and if you do know about some of the mechanics of it. Then you might be able to fix the problem yourself. Whether you have the knowledge already or you can get this from an article on the internet. It might be worth giving it a shot.

Of course, if you have no background in cars and you have no idea what you are doing, then this is not a good idea. Do not start from nothing, as you could end up causing more problems than there already is. The good news is that you are able to buy parts online to fix your vehicle so that you don’t have to take it to a mechanic simply for this reason. A quick search for something like cummins parts online, or whatever model of car you have and you can find what you’re looking for with ease.

Think About Insurance Policies

On the money side of things, you should be thinking about the insurance on the vehicle that you own at the moment versus what it would be if you purchased a new car. This is going to mean looking around at different vehicles. Checking the price of insurance for certain makes and models that you like as well as a few other thing. If it turns out that buying a new car would be cheaper for insurance purposes, then that might have some sway in your decision. Of course it is going to depend on how much difference it would have. Because if you can barely feel the change then it might not be worth it from this point of view.

Remember that older cars often cost more to insure because they have a higher chance of having problems. That’s something that you will find when you are checking insurance quotes and policies, and it’s definitely something that you want to get the best deal on. Insurance is expensive, and there’s no reason for you to pay more than you need to.

Is Your Driving The Problem?

Sometimes the car is not the problem, and it’s actually your driving that is causing the issue. This depends on what the problem you are having with the car is, whether it’s multiple things or just the one. And whether driving can be the cause of that one. It has been known to happen that the person driving is causing the problem with the car. If they would adjust the way that they drive then it wouldn’t be an issue at all. This is something that you need to consider, and perhaps get checked by a mechanic to be on the safe side.

If it does turn out that your driving has been the issue all along. Then it might be time to rethink the way that you are treating your car. You very well may be costing yourself a lot of money by driving the way that you do. Which means that it can be avoided if you would be more careful on the road. It might be a habit, or something that you do without thinking. If this is the case then you need to think more consciously when you are in control of the car going forward.

Is Your Car Reliable Enough As It Is?

It’s important to ask yourself whether or not your car is reliable enough as it is. A lot of the time if you are having to constantly repair a vehicle then the answer to this is going to be no. If it is a no, then you are going to have to purchase a new car. Because you can’t be driving something, never knowing when it’s going to break down. What happens if it does this during something important? We know that this can happen with any car that you have. But it’s more likely with something that has been known to break down so that’s also something that you have got to think about.

If you think that your vehicle is reliable enough to get you to what you need to do, then it’s fair game to get it fixed or get a new one. Before you determine if it’s reliable or not, ask yourself if you would drive it with kids in it. If the answer is no, then it’s probably not, even if you were leaning towards saying it was beforehand.

What Do You Want To Do?

At the end of the day, the most important question that you have got to ask yourself is what you want to do. There are times where what you want and what is practical are not going to align. But you have got to think about both of these. Is there a reason that you keep repairing your car and not buying a new car that we haven’t already covered above? If there is, then you need to think about whether that is holding you back from doing the right thing or not.

Your wants are important, and balancing this with all of the other information isn’t always going to be the easiest thing in the world. As long as you are taking into account all of the facts, we know that you will make the right choice in the end.

So, what do you think? Is it worth getting your car repaired? Or, are you going to bin it off and start again with a new car? Both are perfectly valid options, and we’re sure that whatever you have decided is the best choice for you right now. Of course, if you are still struggling with what to do next, then just take some more time. There is nothing that says you have to decide right now, unless your car has recently broken down and you’re in a bit of a time crunch. It’s an important decision though, and one that you can use the information that we’ve given you above to make!
