While everyone understands that a few tokes of homegrown cannabis can get an athlete high. A revival of research from the ’70s found that CBD compounds inside the plant can fix an array of ailments. From chronic pain, depression, symptoms from chemotherapy to multiple sclerosis.

What is CBD?

The body features a specific biological network known as the endocannabinoid system. This is made up of neurotransmitters and receptors specifically attuned to cannabinoids. These compounds can produce healing effects on our cognitive and physical processes when they bind to specific receptors.

CBD, which can be found in high concentrations in hemp or industrial cannabis, will be the next most typical cannabinoid. It does not produce any psychoactive effects, so, getting the club recently, it was shown to not act around the body system in any respect.

What Does CBD Do?

CBD binds to receptors, called CB1 and CB2—which are present in the brain, nervous system, muscle mass, and in many cases some organs—and can boost functioning in the immune and nerves as well as better manage pain.

How Would It Be Used?

A 2018 meta-analysis of multiple studies about the compound published within the “Journal Frontiers in Immunology” figured that CBD “has clearly shown” effects for reducing and treating anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and psychosis. There are also CBD-THC hybrids, which have been utilized to treat multiple sclerosis. Some medications using CBD have helped to deal with epilepsy in youngsters and teens, with studies showing the compound can reduce as well as eliminate seizures.

Other research shows that CBD can boost and support brain health. An additional study published within the journal “Cell Communication and Signaling” found that CBD could spur the expansion of new neurons in the brain and protect minds. Moreover, another review from 2017 found out that CBD has antioxidant effects that help in keeping mental performance from degenerating through the connection between final years or mental disorders like schizophrenia.

What Is the Correct Dosage?

The short response is, we do not know. The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) does not regulate the compound. As such formulations, dosages, and quality control vary. Moreover, since the consumer marketplace is exploding and regulations are almost nonexistent, athletes will find there is a glut of CBD products overseas that are not quite kosher.

Synthetic CBD to the margarine kind of vegetable oil—athletes can hydrogenate it, so it is much like butter. However, at its core, it is not the same thing. Synthetic CBD will not work along with the natural stuff.

General Dosage Guidelines

It is challenging to provide optimum dose since it depends on the concentration and other environmental factors. It is better to start, with a low dose to see its effects gradually. Listed below are a couple of guidelines.

10 milligrams a day to get a 5’9″ male

15 milligrams for a person 6’2″ and athletic

What Should Athletes Look for in CBD Products?

When purchasing a CBD product, ensure that it is plant-derived. Whether it is from hops or hemp or feverfew. Some of the better brands available produce products which have precise, third-party lab-tested results available. They are some with the highest-quality plant-derived CBD products around. Moreover, currently, the laws continue to be a little bit murky and evolving.  Athletes can legally get CBD products in almost 50 states. However, a few minor restrictions are depending on where athletes reside.

Congress is taking care of legislation today that could make industrial hemp legal inside the U.S.  This may mean any CBD produced from hemp would also be legal nationwide. Right now, there are numerous shops online that can legally sell CBD products, and brick-and-mortar stores are appearing all over the place, so check the local listings.

Since the FDA doesn’t regulate medical cannabis products specifically CBD, there are no clear instructions on which form of product to work with and the ways to properly dose themselves. However, taking CBD is not exactly like choosing a drug, and that means athletes do not be concerned about overdosing or getting sick.

Can CBD Help Athletes?

The million dollar question! Though taking CBD to improve performance further is not well-studied, there are several athletes who use CBD and THC extracts to help with recovery and pain management. A few well-known athletes attended and declared that they usually use CBD to help with recovery. To heal sore muscles and achy joints, and tamp down general inflammation. Using CBD within their athletic endeavors will help them using their gains. However, not by making the athletes directly stronger or supplying them with more energy, like steroids or stimulants.

Where these product will yield benefit, is the weekend workout by making a recovery from intense exercise and minor injuries faster.

Standard Forms and How to Take It

Experts advise that athletes do not take it every single day to prevent illness or pain, because it is relatively expensive—a 1,000 mg bottle of tincture temps can cost up to $100. Moreover, there is not often any profit to using it prophylactically in case the athlete is already healthy and free of any chronic disorders. Some common kinds of CBD are as follows:

Tincture and Oil

Take under the tongue; help to increase smoothies or food and drinks.

Cream and lotion

Apply to muscles.

Time-release tablets

Best for help with chronic disease.

Edibles

An easy way to have a daily dose.

Vaporizer juice

For a pokey and steady dose all day.

Side Notes

THC is just about the most well-known cannabinoid, which can be found in marijuana seeds, buds, extracts, and other derived products. This substance is useful in recreational marijuana—as it gives the user with that stereotypical, euphoric high when smoked or ingested.

However, it is cannabidiol (CBD)—the straitlaced brother for the chemical Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in sativa or Indica strain of marijuana provides users the well known euphoric high—that has been utilizing the nation by storm. This seemingly miraculous compound has been seen to jump-start healing in the body by governing the disease fighting capability and reducing inflammation, all without harmful side effects.
