The Hottest Moments from New York Comic-Con 2016

New-York-Comic-Con-2016

The growing wonder known as New York Comic-Con has officially wrapped. While it may not be the big daddy of comic-cons, it certainly is the young son who is growing by leaps and bounds that just maybe able to go a few rounds with his old man one day. Enough of the analogies though. What were the highlights of this year’s fanboy fest? Read on and thou shall see…

Marvel’s Iron Fist on Netflix

Kung-fu artist Daniel Rand finally gets the live-action Netflix/Marvel collaboration treatment. Billed as “The Last Defender” – as in before they assemble for their own Avengers like series. The trailer appears to delve into Danny Rand’s origin story. By far the highlight is seeing the golden powered fist. Many worried how and if they could pull it off while maintaining the grounded elements of the other Netflix/Marvel properties. Looks good so far. Don’t believe us? Take a peek.

John Wick: Chapter 2

When Keanu Reeves hit the screen as the titular John Wick it was a bit of sleeper hit. However, the second chapter appears to be even better. This time out joining Keanu Reeves is Common, John Leguizamo, Ruby Rose, and a bit of a Matrix reunion with Laurence Fishburne as the villain. Quite frankly if the trailer is any indication this looks better than the original.

Power Rangers

Hear us out on this one. This ain’t the live action after-school show you remember. Lions Gate up and gave the Power Rangers a reboot. Think more along the lines of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, in terms of tone and story. A group of awkward and outcast high schoolers discover they have super powers and along with them super enemies. Plus it’s got Becky G and Walter White himself – Bryan Cranston in it, so we can’t be mad at that.

The Defenders Assemble

In perhaps the highlight of the weekend-fest Marvel yet again pulled off a coup, by having Charlie Cox (DareDevil), Kristen Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage) and Finn Jones (Iron Fist) assemble as The Defenders on stage for the first time. In addition, a surprise announcement was made that Sigourney Weaver would be the nemesis for the super-group. Then none other than Ridley herself walked on stage.
