After over a year of easter eggs and on set paparazzi shots DC Studios has given fans their first official look at James Gunn’s Superman film. Positioned as the jump off for the newly rebooted DCU, this latest incarnation stars David Corenswet as the Man of Steel. Corenswet by the way bears an eery resemblance to the prior Superman actor Henry Cavill.
The official synopsis released by DC Studios is: Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas.
“He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman also stars Rachel Brosnahan of Marvelous Ms. Maisel fame, as Lois Lane; Nicholas Hault as Lex Luthor; Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern; Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific; Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen; María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher.
While we will be getting some of the traditional elements characters fans have become accustomed to in a Superman film, Gunn is also jumping straight into the universe building deep end of the pool, including the likes of Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Mr. Terrific and the first on screen appearance of Krypto the Super Dog. So fans can expect more than just another origin story.
The tailer looks promising. Superman opens July 11, 2025. Until then check out the trailer here.
