Gennady Golovkin made history last night with his latest TKO stoppage. Golovkin faced mandatory contender Kamil Szeremeta. The two fought inside the bubble at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
The defense was the 21st of Golovkin’s career. Golovkin dominated from the opening bell. Dropping Szeremeta in each of the first three rounds. Szeremeta managed to make it to the seventh round, before being dropped by a Golovkin double jab. After the round Szeremeta’s corner waived off the bout, resulting in a Round 7 TKO stoppage.
Although Szeremeta put on a display of grit and heart, he was no match in the power department and never put Golovkin in any danger. However, Golovkin on the other hand demonstrated his boxing ability, good and underrated head movement and his infamous power. The win puts Gennady Golovkin into the record books of boxing. Gennady Golovkin surpasses Bernard Hopkins for most title defenses at middleweight.
The bigger question is what lies ahead? The rumor mill is swirling about a Canelo trilogy match, then there are the current crop of all stars at middleweight, Jermall Charlo is a viable candidate as would a rematch with Daniel Jacobs. Until then check out some vintage Gennady Golovkin in the highlights below.
