The Ghostbusters Abby (Melissa McCarthy), Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon), Erin (Kristen Wiig) and Patty (Leslie Jones) inside the Mercado Hotel Lobby in Columbia Pictures' GHOSTBUSTERS.

Awards season is in full swing, which usually means Hollywood is looking back on the best of the previous year. Fear not, we have an eye to the future of film. Want to know what’s in store and worth heading to the cinema to see? We’ve curated the must-see movies dropping in 2016.

January

The Revenant

It’s got star power in the form of Leo DiCaprio, the latest “it” director in the form of Alejandro Inarittu and a ton of award buzz with no less than 12 Oscar nods. Yet, its still a good old revenge tale which is why this is a must see for the fellas.

Ride Along 2

Kevin Hart and Ice Cube re-team for the sequel to their 2013 hit Ride Along, this time scene stealer of The Hangover Ken Jeong is along for the ride. With this trio you can pretty sure the laughs will be plentiful.

February

Deadpool

Our favorite “Merc with a Mouth” finally gets his own flick. In a rarity for the super hero genre its getting and R rating, meaning Ryan Reynolds has free reign to go bat-shit crazy. If the marketing and trailers are any indication, this one looks like it will deliver the goods.

March

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Continuing the superhero genre, the biggest, baddest comic book showdown will hit the silver screen when the Dark Knight of Gotham goes up against the big blue boy scout of Metropolis. Add Wonder Women to the mix and we have the long awaited launch pad for the Justice League flicks.

April

Barbershop – The Next Cut

Ice Cube brings back the old crew of Cedric The Entertainer and J.B. Smoove, but adds some new blood to the mix with Tyga and Nicki Minaj making appearances. This go around Cube and the rest of the gang must work together to save his shop and the neighborhood.

May

Captain America: Civil War

Also known as Avengers 3, this third outing in the Captain America franchise finds Steve Rogers at odds with Tony Stark aka Iron Man over the registration of superheroes by the government. Following the storyline of the comics, various Avengers choose a side, War Machine, Black Panther, Vision and Black Widow on Team Iron Man while Hawkeye, Scarlett Witch, Falcon and Ant Man on Team Cap. Should be an interesting battle.

June

Independence Day Resurgence

It took nearly 20 years, but the Independence Day franchise returns with a sequel. Most of the original cast returns (save for Will Smith). As we all expected the baddies from another world return, this time, bigger, meaner and seemingly more pissed off. Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth must help save the world.

July

The Legend of Tarzan

This latest iteration of the classic Tarzan tale, puts a different twist on things. This go around, we find Tarzan many years after he left Africa behind and settled in London. He returns to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary, unaware that he is actually a pawn in a Belgian captain’s deadly plot. Alexander Skarsgard plays the titular hero Tarzan, while his Jane is none other than Margot Robbie.  Special effects look pretty badass, Skarsgard is jacked and Robbie looking pretty hot. This may have all the elements of a summer hit.

Ghostbusters

The iconic Ghostbusters franchise gets a reboot. This time with an all female cast. Led by funny women Kristin Wiig and Melissa McCarthy, with cameos from the original cast members such as Dan Ackroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson and maybe even Bill Murray. Color us curious on this one.

Star Trek Beyond

The rebooted crew assemble for their third outing. Little is known about the plot other than the Enterprise is destroyed and the crew are stranded on an alien world. Yet, with James Lin (Fast & Furious) directing and Idris Elba joining the principal cast, we pretty sure it will not disappoint.

August

Suicide Squad

With its two trailers racking up over 90 million views on YouTube, this has to be one of the most anticipated films of 2016. Based on the DC Comic serial of the same name it tells the tale of a secret government agency that assembles a task force of imprisoned super villains to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for clemency. Its got a heavy hitter cast with Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jay Hernandez as Diablo and Jared Leto stepping into some pretty big clown shoes in the form of The Joker.

September

Sully

The true story of American pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, who landed a troubled airplane full of passengers on the Hudson River.  Its got some great talent behind the camera with Clint Eastwood directing and in front, with Tom Hanks starring as the heroic pilot. Should be bone chilling to see these events played out on screen.

The Magnificent Seven

A remake of the 1960’s Western starring Yul Brenner, Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson (which in turn was a remake of the 1954 Japanese film Seven Samurai) . In this version Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt and Ethan Hawke stare in a tale of a widow who hires seven gunmen to exact revenge for the murder of her husband.

November

Doctor Strange

Marvel brings its latest comic book hero to the silver screen. Up this time is Dr. Steven Strange. After his career is destroyed, the brilliant but arrogant surgeon gets a second chance when a sorcerer takes him under his wing and trains him. Benedict Cumberbatch stars.

Bad Santa 2

The sequel to the 2003 black comedy classic. Billy Bob Thornton returns as safe-cracker/ alcoholic/Santa – Willie Stokes, with side-kick Tony Cox as Marcus in tow. Not much is known about the plot, other than this go around will delve into Willie’s youth – perhaps a look at how he became the scoundrel he is today. No matter, consider this a “can’t wait to see.”

December

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

The first big screen spin-off of the Star Wars franchise. Rogue One goes back to the New Hope period, where a group of rebels set out on a mission to steal plans for the yet to completed Death Star. Latest rumors indicate Darth Vader will appear in a substantial role.  As this is the first film to go off the direct storyline should be an interesting test of the force!!!

Assassin’s Creed

For all the gamers out there. The video game franchise Assassin’s Creed is coming to the big screen. Michael Fassbender will star as Callum Lynch who explores the memories of his ancestors and becomes a master assassin. Only to discover he is actually a descendants of a secret Assassins society. It appears they are really giving this the A-List treatment so this has the potential to go where no video game movie has before — a commercial and critical hit.
