On Friday, Bad Bunny released the video for “Yo Perreo Sola” the latest track off of his hit album YHLQMDLG. Translated in English it means “I Twerk Alone”. The video is perhaps the Latin trap artist’s most daring visual statement ever on misogyny and gender equality.

In the video directed by Mr. Martinez himself and Stillz, Bunny inhabits no less than three characters. With a full drag makeover, we see him don a a red latex ensemble to a skintight animal print dress and rock a full-face of makeup and chest plate, while twerking in thigh-high boots.

Visuals aside the message of the song – respect a woman’s wishes – seeks to take a stance against toxic masculinity and machismo in the music industry and Latinx community.  At video’s end a statement appears which states “Si no quiere bailar contigo, respeta, ella perrea sola”/”If she doesn’t want to dance with you, respect her, she twerks alone.”

The video is trending #2 on YouTube with over 24 million views in 24-hours and garnering tons of praise for the artist on social media. Many applauding his stance and willingness to go on camera, places no other reggaeton or trap artist would dare to. However, it hasn’t been without dust ups. As of press time, fellow artist Anuel AA was trending for what many perceived to derogatory comments about Bunny on his Instagram account. Anuel AA has since issued a statement clarifying said remarks, yet, this has yet to be fully squashed. One thing is for sure in the Latino community – we love our drama, so the dust up might have legs. In the meantime, check out the video for “Yo Perreo Sola”.
