What better way to celebrate the 4th of July than a sneak peak at Team USA’s Basketball uniforms for the Olympic Games in Rio. For a closer look at the 2016 Dream Team’s uni’s read on.
The Look
Nike certainly brought their A-game this year. The United States basketball uniforms contain AeroSwift technology (more on that a little later) and rock a vivid take on the nation’s signature red, white and blue. The jersey’s font takes inspiration from classic American typography.
Shining crimson drapes the shoulders and trim of both the jersey and shorts. Why? According to Nike to emphasize the player’s speed while the fabric flashes the country name, numbering and iconic Swoosh.
United States away uniforms are white, with the same tech and details as the home uniform, but these uniforms impose a new order on the court by pairing progressive knit jerseys and shorts featuring Nike AeroSwift technology with innovative base layers to minimize game-time distractions and maximize performance. More on the tech after the jump…
The Tech
Speaking of technology. The system is anchored by basketball-specific base layer options, including arm sleeves, padded compression gear and knee sleeves, which together wick sweat from the skin, providing a feeling of protection and compression, and keeping the players’ arms and legs warm off-court.
The shorts also introduce a FlyVent waistband that addresses the discomfort of traditional basketball waistbands by combining two types of knit mesh into one highly secure, breathable band. This is matched to a hybrid of knit mesh in the back and a hydrophobic four-way stretch woven fabric in the front. Additionally, the front of the shorts features a mobility vent. Placed specifically where basketball players need it most, based on their five key movements, it reveals a flash of tights as athletes move.
National Teams, including United States, Brasil, Spain and China, will be rocking this style of uni in the 2016 Olympic Games. Now let’s just hope it gets them to the medal podium!!!
