From April 6th to the 15th it’s anticipated that over one million people will descend upon the Jacob Javits Center for the 2012 New York International Auto Show. The week-long extravaganza is considered a signature event for the auto industry. Car manufacturers from all over the world unveil their newest and boldest creations. ‘LLERO joined the party to bring you the latest models that had everyone talking, check them out after the jump. BMW i8 Electric
The BMW i8 Electric concept car actually made its debut in 2011’s Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. The show lets you get an up close and personal look at the sleek stunner. This eDrive plug-in hybrid brings together a combustion engine and an electric drive system complemented by extremely low fuel consumption and emissions. Oh yea, its also easy on the eyes.
Nissan NYC Taxi
It’s been coined as the “Taxi of Tomorrow,” manufactured by Nissan Motor Co. The NV 200 model will be on the streets of NYC in the fall of 2013. The car is equipped with a transparent roof, fuel-efficient engine and antimicrobial seats. Other easter eggs include reading lights, chargers with 12-volt electric outlets and two USB ports to re-charge mobile devices. Does that mean the the driver will always be on his cell phone?
Terrafugia Transition
George Jetson ain’t got nothing on this. The Transition is the first of its kind: it is simultaneously able to perform as an aircraft or a street-legal vehicle. The vehicle has two seats, four wheels and wings that fold up so it can be driven like a car. It was tested in March and flew at 1,400 feet for eight minutes.
McLaren MP4-12C
The McLaren is definitely a head turner, it had more groupies around it than a Justin Beiber concert. Other than the pimp my ride color, the car makes use of Formula 1-sourced technologies such as “brake steer,” where the inside rear wheel is braked during fast cornering to reduce understeer.
Infiniti LE
The Infiniti LE concept car made its world debut at the show. A production version’s coming in two years. Touted as zero-emissions luxury sedan, the LE also uses home-based wireless charging to top-up its battery. In another cool twist, it has an Intelligent Park Assist system that will bookmark your garage in its GPS, automatically switching on a 360-degree Around View Monitor when you arrive home.
Spyker C8 AILERON
The C8 Aileron was initially unveiled as a concept at the 2009 Geneva International Motor Show. What’s under the hood? Its power comes from a naturally aspirated Audi 4.2-liter V8 gasoline engine. The V8 generates 400 hp at 6,800 rpm. Talk about gitty up, the C8 can accelerate from 0-to-100 kph in 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph.
Bugatti Veyron
A man can dream can’t he? With a price tag of $1.9 million, not likely you’ll be picking up the Bugatti Veyron (unless you found that Mega Millions lottery ticket hidden in the McDonald’s), but the Veyron is still a sight to behold. Talk about craftsmanship — the car is assembled by hand at the company’s headquarters in France. Talk about speed — with the roof off the car it can travel up 253 mph.
RAM 1500
When it comes to grills, RAM is playing for keeps with its 1500 model. The 1500 has 5.7-liter V8 which produces 390 horsepower. For those concerned about size the car is offered in Regular Cab, Quad Cab® and Crew Cab models.
Camaro Hot Wheels
If you played with Hot Wheels as a kid, then you’ve probably imagined what it would be like to have the thing in full size. Chevrolet has tried to make that a reality, creating a Camaro concept car inspired by the “Custom Camaro” 1/64-scale model that was part of the original Hot Wheels collection released in 1968. Ohh yes, hot model – not included.
Lexus LF-LC
The LF-LC is a 2+2 sport coupe featuring a panoramic glass roof and a hybrid powertrain. Inside, there’s a refined mix of wood, metal and leather. Looks like Lexus is clearly ditching the boring car label.
