Yesterday, we were treated to a teaser for the film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway smash In the Heights. Today Warner Bros. dropped a full In the Heights trailer. The official synopsis of the film is:
Lights up on Washington Heights…The scent of a cafecito caliente hangs in the air just outside of the 181st Street subway stop, where a kaleidoscope of dreams rallies this vibrant and tight-knit community. At the intersection of it all is the likeable, magnetic bodega owner Usnavi (Anthony Ramos), who saves every penny from his daily grind as he hopes, imagines and sings about a better life.
The film is being directed by John M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) and sports an all-star cast of color, including Anthony Ramos (A Star is Born) Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton, 24), singer/songwriter Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera (Vida), Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent, Wild Things), Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Jimmy Smits (NYPD Blue; West Wing; LA Law; Star Wars Episode II & III) and many more.
The trailer looks like we will be getting movie musical classic, with great music, rich vibrant settings and some socio-political commentary weaved within. The film opens Summer of 2020. Until then enjoy the In the Heights trailer.
