Super Bowl LII Commercials…The Winners, Losers & WTF Moments

Super-Bowl-LII-Commercials

The big game has come and gone. Now let the dissection of the best part of the game begin – the commercials! There were winners, losers and moments that had saying WTF?

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Fanboys have been salivating for their first look at the space smuggler with swag. The wait along with reports of behind the scenes chaos has had them worried. However, the teaser which dropped during the game looks impressive and was #2 on YouTube trending before the game was even over. The full trailer drops today, so hopefully we’ll get more of the same. Check out the first look below.

Mission: Impossible Fallout

Mr. Cruise is in his sixth go around as secret agent Ethan Hunt, back along for the rider are Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson and Alec Baldwin. Joining the fray are Angela Bassett and Henry Cavill, yep’ Superman and that now famous mustache. Much has been made about the ‘stache and injury Cruise suffered on set. So buzz is big and by looks of the trailer the franchise shows no signs of slowing down.

Tide

In our opinion, the winner of the game was Tide. David Harbour of Stranger Things served as spokesperson and the concept — troll all other commercial cliché’s from car commercials to deodorant, mattresses and diamonds. It was funny and meta at the same time. The cherry on top, recruiting Isaiah Mustafa, who’s best known in the advertising world as face of Old Spice. Instead of an Old Spice bottle, a Tide detergent bottle appears in Mustafa’s hand as he sits shirtless on top of a white horse. To continue the trolling concept – priceless.

Alexa Loses Her Voice

Amazon entered the Super Bowl commercial foray for Alexa. In a clever, yet celebrity laden commercial Alexa loses her voice, so Jeff Bezos (making a cameo) and company recruit stand ins in the form of actor Anthony Hopkins, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey, actress Rebel Wilson and rapper Cardi B to help out. Feeds into every Super Bowl commercial cliché, but still entertaining.

WTF Moment – Dodge RAM

In what was probably a not so good use of social activism and commerce coming together, was Dodge RAM’s decision to overlay MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech over video of its Dodge RAM model. Social media has had field day. It left us feeling like the moment Kendall Jenner thought she could stop police brutality with a Pepsi – tone deaf and out of touch. Don’t believe check out the real-time social media reactions.
