The Grammys – they don’t call it music’s biggest for nothing. The 2019 Grammy awards had its share of memorable moments. From Camila, to Cardi and J.Lo. Artists put their best foot forward and delivered some great performances and water cooler moments. Here are just a few.
Camila Cabello, Ricky Martin and J. Balvin Opening
Camila Cabello opened the night with her smash “Havana”. However, she put a different spin on the hit. Enlisting some help in the form of Ricky Martin and Arturo Sandoval, then segueing into a medley of J. Balvin’s “Mi Gente”, with none other than Mr. Balvin himself. The set channeled old school Havana, had a Broadway musical feel and the performances provided an opportunity to showcase the many generations of Latin music. Oh yes, there was also the blink and you’ll miss it moment, of J. Balvin holding up a newspaper that states “Build Bridges Not Walls”!
Angela Aguilar, Aida Cuevas & Natalia Lafourcade Perform “La Llorona”
In the culture of Latino America “La Llorona” is said to be the ghost of a woman who lost her children. This woman then cries searching for them and causes misfortune to those who are near or hear her. Angela Aguilar had the Grammy audience in tears, but for way better reasons. Her rendition of the song was nothing but powerful.
Cardi B.
When you rock a purple velvet cape, you know your in for a performance. Cardi B. descended the steps in a showgirl fantasy of a set, surrounded by body-suited dancers in splits. Then she climbing on a crystal piano. You know peeps will be talking, snap’ing, IG’ing those visuals for weeks to come. Oh yes, then there was the song. Ms. B, performed “Money” like it was second nature.
Jennifer Lopez Motown Tribute
In one of the more controversial performances of the evening Jennifer Lopez performed a tribute to Motown’s 60th Anniversary. The selection of Lopez garnered some back lash when made. The question being why not other artists with closer more authentic ties to the music? Especially with the likes of Alicia Keys, Diana Ross and Fantasia Barrino on hand. Her co-performer Smokey Robinson came to her defense. As to the performance. Lopez always brings her A-Game and the Motown tribute was no exception. Check it out below.
