This Is the Droid You Are Looking For…Gita A Personal Robot That Will Carry Your Groceries For You

Gita-Personal-Robot

This is the droid you are looking for!!! Today in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a personal robot called “Gita” will make its debut. Gita is an Italian word for “short trip”. That is precisely what it is designed to do. Make short trips to help a pedestrian carry cargo, such as groceries. Gita is made by scooter brand Vespa, through its Boston based division, Piaggio Fast Forward.

What We Know

The specs made available indicate that the robot can carry up to 40 pounds of cargo and can do it at up to speeds of 22 miles per hour both indoors and outdoors. Gita can follow a human operator via sensor technology. Alternatively, it can operate independently, once it’s mapped out a route with its internal camera. According to Engadget.com Gita will initially be released in a business to business environment, but consumer use is in the works.

What We Don’t Know

They say the devil is in the details. The biggest detail is the price? Which is still unkown. What’s also unknown is how this droid navigates over rougher terrain and adverse weather conditions such as rain, snow or ice. Also, when will a consumer roll out happen? While the bot looks sleek and cool if its not practical — well this may not be the droid you are looking for. Perhaps the February 2nd debut will shed more light on these questions and more.
