Spike Lee is coming to Netflix. The newest Spike Lee joint is entitled Da Five Bloods.
In his latest outing Lee revisit the war drama. His previous effort in this genre was The Miracle at St. Anna based on the 2003 book by James McBride set in World War II. In this outing Lee tackles the Vietnam War.

Da Five Bloods tells the story of four African-American Vets — Paul (Delroy Lindo), Otis (Clarke Peters), Eddie (Norm Lewis), and Melvin (Isiah Whitlock, Jr.) — who return to Vietnam. Searching for the remains of their fallen Squad Leader (Chadwick Boseman) and the promise of buried treasure, our heroes, joined by Paul’s concerned son (Jonathan Majors), battle forces of Man and Nature — while confronted by the lasting ravages of The Immorality of The Vietnam War.

Trailer jumps time periods from when the crew were in the thick of the war to their modern day return to Vietnam, juxtaposed with archival news and political coverage of the era. If anyone is familiar with Spike Lee’s body of work you know he wont shy away from truth or controversy.

Da Five Bloods drops on Netflix on June 12. In the meantime peep the trailer here.
