How to Have A Drink with Your Papí on Fathers Day

Montenegro-Fathers-Day

Ties, coffee mugs, t-shirts—you’ve bought all this and more for your papa. It’s time to switch it up. If your dad enjoys a good trago (who doesn’t?) why not raise a glass of the good stuff in his name?

There are a few prime spirits that every man seems to love. Juan David Marin, a Colombian mixologist at Flick, which specializes in gastronomy at Diageo, has a few specific recommendations.

“Most men like to enjoy a good whisky and Scotch is well-known for its excellent quality and flavor,” Marin says. “I recommend giving him a bottle of Buchanan’s Special Reserve, which is very special since it’s been aged for a minimum of 18 years in European Sherry Oak barrels.” Buchanan’s Special Reserve also has dalwhinnie, a sweet honeyed malt whisky. If that doesn’t do it for you, there are 14 other types of whisky to choose from. Each bottle costs about $75.

Marin, who grew up in Colombia watching his father and uncles enjoy a drink on Father’s Day, also recommends going for the top shelf spirits. “You can also make the gift even more special, [by] customizing it with his name and a brief message on a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label.”

Now if you want to try something different this Father’s Day try one of Marin’s crafty little concoctions thanks to the recipe below.
