Copa70-adidas

In Latino America there aren’t many sneakers that speak to the community the way the Copa Mundial does. In recognition of this, adidas Soccer revealed their tribute to the iconic Copa Mundial soccer shoe. Simply titled the COPA70. Here are five things you need to know about the COPA70.

1. The History

Designed for the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain, the adidas Copa Mundial was originally released in 1979. The cleats featured a premium leather, fold-over tongue and the classic colors the Mundial is known for — black and white. While many cleats have evolved with new technologies, new materials and innovations, the Copa Mundial has stood the test of time.

2. The Design

The design, which is directly based on the 1982 original, brings to life the interplay between past and present. Leather is used as lining to show where it all started from in football. Red studs have been included as a reference to the look which was developed in the 1970s.

3. What’s New

Adidas isn’t just slapping on a new colorway on the Copa70. Their upping the tech game on this tribute shoe. Primeknit is used on the outside of the boot to represent where adidas are today.

4. What’s New, Part Two

adidas is also rolling out lifestyle sneaker editions, which feature a red island on the outsole. An original bluebird logo on the tongue of the boot and shoe is another nod to the Copa. The boot is also sold in special packaging and can be purchased with either the modern style short laces or the more retro long laces.

5. When and Where

The new COPA70’s dropped this week and are available to purchase from $250 online and in store with the sneaker available to purchase for $150.
