Mikey Garcia faced Jessie Vargas last night in Texas. He came away with a unanimous decision win and his fifth title in five weight classes. More importantly, Mikey Garcia showed he can hang in the welterweight division. In the first few rounds Vargas was in control of the bout. Using his reach to land left hands around Garcia’s guard. But in round five Garcia began to close the distance and floored Vargas. It changed the course of the bout. Vargas was a different fighter after round five. Throughout the remainder of the bout the smaller Garcia walked Vargas down to a unanimous decision victory. What’s next for the new champ?
