The UFC returned to Las Vegas for UFC Vegas 5. In the main event Derek Brunson walked into the octagon an underdog. By round three he would walk out the victor.
Brunson took on previously undefeated prospect Edmen Shahbazyan. The first round was even, however, as the second round wore on Brunson began to assert himself. Brunson dropped Shahbazyan with a little more than 40 seconds left in round two and began to ground and pound. Round three saw more of the same before the referee had seen enough and called a halt to the action.
